Annual or perennial, coarsely hairy herb, up to 1 m in height; leaves orbicular, 5-angled, base cordate, obtuse, 5-nerved, covered with minute, stellate hairs on both surfaces, petiole 3-5 cm long; stipules linear or filiform; inflorescence axillary or terminal, dense, heads of 3-7 flowers, intermixed with bracteoles; epicalyx segments reniform with a white spot at base; calyx cupular, sepals 5, 3-nerved, glabrous, oblong-deltoid, acuminate; petals 5, coherent below, longer than sepals, adnate to staminal-tube; stamens numerous, staminal tube truncate or 5-toothed, filaments many; carpels 5, 1-ovuled, opposite the petals, style 10, slender, stigma 10; fruit subglobose, depressed, l-ovuled, mericarps indehiscent, separating from the axis, smooth; seeds reniform or obpyriform. |
