Plant Description

Perennial herb, with a subterranean, stotoniferous rhizome which is clothed with non-fibrous remains of leaf scales; stem slendir usually 2-3 in linear succession, compressed-trig anous; leaves basal as long as or longer than the stem; spikes white, usually solitary, often 2-3 together globose, bracts 3, foliaceous; spikelets compressed, obliquely ellipsoid-obovoid; glumes keeled, Mucronate, 5-7 nerved, conspi cuously with red dots throughout, kee lunaely crested in upper half, crest ciliolate-spinulous, with red dots, stamens 2-3, style deeply 2-fid; nut reddish brown, oblong-obovoid, apiculate.
