Plant Description

Small, slow growing shrub, erect, woody, evergreen branches, horizontal spreading; stipules foliaceous, large, sometimes equaling the leaflets; leaflets paired, wing like; heads globose, axillary, pentamerous, polygamous, actinomorphic; calyx campanulate, 5 toothed; corolla red deeply 5-lobed, valvate, funnel shaped; stamens numerous, monadelphous at base, filaments filiform, much exserted, beyond petals, anthers minute; ovary stalked, many ovuled; style filiform; stigma minute, capitate; pods persist on the plant for long period, strap shaped with much thickened sutures, narrowed gradually to a short stalk, rigidly coriaceous, many seeded.
