Plant Description

An erect, diffused, hirsute or more or less woolly herb; stem stout and somewhat succulent but woody at the base; branches ascending, clothed with stiff spreading hairs; leaves alternate or subopposite, petioled, ovate-oblong, obtuse or sub acute, sparsely hairy above, minutely pilose beneath, margins undulate or sub serrate, base rounded or cordate, nerves prominent beneath; spike about 15cm long, usually leaf opposed; ebracteate; flowers blue or mauve, sessile, 2 ranked; calyx 5 partite, sepals-5, linear, narrowly lanceolate, acute; corolla funnel shaped, tube narrow, slender, cylindric, slightly dilated at the base; lobes very small, rounded, spreading or reflexed; stamens 5, inserted on corolla-tube, included; ovary 4-locular, lobed or unlobed with a glandular ring at base, style with an annular fril at base, stigma globoid; fruit mitriform, separating into 2-seeded, 2-pointed pyrenes.
