Plant Description
An erect or straggling shrub, 1-1.5 m high, twigs woody, terete, glabrous or minutely hairy, straw coloured; leaves long petioled, opposite, broadly ovate, acuminate, entire or toothed, glabrous, nerves 6-8 pairs, more prominent beneath; leaves on shortened flowering branches (spur shoots) sessile or subsessile, much smaller; flowers solitary or crowded in leaf axils or on lateral branches; bracts absent; bracteoles large, leafy, up to 2.5 cm, ovate acute, scarious; sepals linear, subequal, subulate, little longer than broad, puberulous or pubescent; corolla campanulate, tube straight, yellowish white, pale blue with yellow or pink streaks, palate with long, deflexed, fulvous hairs within, lobes obovate-suborbicular, crenulate; stamens 4, didynamous, anthers 2-celled, cells parallel, subsimilar, anthers as well as filaments sparsely, minutely hairy at the base; ovary 2-celled, glandular, ovules 2 in each; style long, slender, shortly hairy, stigma bilobed; capsule clavate, compressed, 2-4 seeded, dehiscing elastically from thr bottom; seeds discoid. |
