Plant Description

Annual, slender, foetid smelling, large, tendrillar, spreading vines clothed densely with stiff, hispid, setaceous hairs; petiole long, slender; stipules linear, gland tipped; leaves alternate, large, about 5-10 cm long, palmatilobed, cleft about half way down, lobes 3-5, suborbicular-ovate, base cordate, acute, chartaceous, appressed, glandular pubescence beneath, margin subentire; flowers upto 4-5 cm across, usually solitary, axillary; peduncle long; flowers greenish-white with an involucres of finely pinnatisect bracteoles, 2-3 cm long, glandular- pubescent; calyx-tube fleshy, saucer shaped, lobes-5, ovate-lanceolate; petals-5, slightly shorter than the calyx-lobes; outer coronal hairs almost half the length of inner ones; stamens 5; filaments forming a tube around and inserted on gynandrophore, anthers oblong, dorsifixed; disk prominent, annular; ovary 1-celled, styles-3, stout, stigma reniform or capitate; fruit baccate, subglobose, purple; seeds many, arilate.
