Annuals; Culms 30-75 cm tall, erect, glabrous; leaves linear, soft, glabrous; sheaths terete, glabrous; ligules membranous; inflorescence a spike; rhachis compressed, ciliate; spikelets laterally compressed, 0.8-1.2 mm long, 3-5-flowered; glumes ovate, 8.5-10 mm long, awned; lemma ovate, 1-1.3 cm long, 5-nerved; awn 5-8 cm long; palea ciliate at top; anthers 3, yellow, ca 3.5 mm long; caryopsis ellipsoid, 8-9 mm long, with longitudinal groove on ventral side.
