Plant Description

Slender tree with subaerial stem; leaves very large, distichous, spreading out fan-wise, lamina ovate-oblong, truncate at apex, broadly rounded-subcordate at base, sheathing at base; flowers large in short axillary racemes from the axils of lower leaves; bracts large, distichous, cymbiform; sepals-3, free, equal; petals-3 free, lateral like the sepals, meddle one shorter; fertile stamens 5 or 6 with linear anthers; ovary 3-celled, style 6-toothed at the tip; capsules loculicidally 3-valved; seeds with blue or purple, fimbriate axil.
