Annual herb; culms erect, decumbent or short creeping below, slender or stout, glabrous, simple or branched, nodes glabrous; leaves narrow, scaberulous, sheaths compressed, glabrous, ligules absent; racemes oblong, pyramidal or spiciform, spikes suberut, usually distant; spikelets ovate elliploid, paired, greenish yellow or purplish, hispidulous or scabeid; lower glume 5-nerred, upper glume acute, 7-nerved; lower lemma and upper lemma orate crusta ceous; anthers 3, yellow; cayopsis dull white, ovoid.
