Plant Description

Perennial herbs ; culms terete, densely tufted, nodes glabrous ; leaves linear, acute at apex, ciliate at base, sheaths striate, glabrous ligule a fringed membrane with short hairs ; racemes solitary, terminating the culms and branches,with lower awedess, homogamous spikelet pairs and upper awned forming twist, spikelets closely imbricating, subsecund, the lower 2-6 or more sessile, male or neuter the upper sessile spikelets, long awned, female ; lower glume 7-9 nerved , upper glume inrolute, 3-nerved, upper lemma linear stiptiform ; stamus 3, caryopsis cylindrical, hairy.
