Perennial densely tufted grass; culms with rizoneatous rootstock, nodes glabrous; leaves linear-lanceolate, acuminate,folded towards base, flat upward, sheaths keeled and compressed, glabrous, ligule a very short memberane; inflorescence a contracted panicle, spikelets in pairs,sessile spikelets lanceolate, acute, lower ghence muricate on back,5-nerved, upper glume concave, spinulose, awnless, lower lemma empty, upper lemma, 3-nerved, mucronate, anthers 3, orange-yellow; caryopsis broader at base.
