Large shrub or small tree, young parts pubescent with very short, simple hairs; smooth, grey bark; leaves opposite or subopposite, elliptic-oblong or lanceolate, 4-9 x 2.5 cm, acute or acuminate, glabrous, petiolate; flowers white or pink, slightly fragrant in axillary panicles, few or many together; pedicels slender, about 1.5 cm long; calyx smooth, not ribbed, tube short, subhemispherial; teeth 6, acute, glabrous, puberulous or minutely pubescent; petals 6, white, long clawed, limbs large orbicular, fimbriate; stamens many, multiseriate, outermost 6 with 2-3 times longer fillaments; style longer than stamens; capsules ellipsoid or ovoid, up to 4 cm long, lower portion immersed in the accrescent, woody calyx; seeds with terminal wing. |
