Annual, procumbent, scabrous, hairy herb, usually prostrate or sometimes appressed to the ground with silky hairs; leaves altenate, crisped, elliptic to obovate, asymmetrical, rounded at apex, margins coarsely serrate, scabrous, densely hairy on both surfaces; flowers usually solitary, axillary or in spikes, sessile or subsessile, yellow or white, bisexual, 4-5 merous, shortly pedicellate; calyx very short, irregular, 4-5 partite, narrow, imbricate, very hairy; corolla tube short, as long as calyx, lobes 4-5, oblong, imbricate in bud; stamens 4-5, included within the corolla tube, anthers ovate, filaments short; ovary shallowly 4-lobed, 2-celled, entire; ovules 2 in each locule, style short, divided into 2, stigma capitate or 2-lobed; drupe, 4 lobed, muriculate, when ripe separating into 4-pyrenes, each 1 or 2-seeded. |
