Plant Description

Small or large deciduous tree; branches minutely pubescent; leaves alternate or upper sub-opposite, ovate-oblong, rounded or subcordate at base, entire, acute or subacute, adult leaves tomentose beneath, 3-5 nerved at base; petioles long, tomentose; flowers in large terminal corymbs or cymes, bracts minute, pedicels pubescent; calyx shortly 5 lobed, pubescent, ribbed upwards; corolla white, tube longer than the calyx, spreading into 5-6; lobes with crisped margines, stamens as many as the corolla lobes, included in the tube, anthers shortly exserted; ovary 4-celled, glabrous, cells 1-4 ovuled, usually only 1 fertile; style terminal; stigma 2-lobed, capitate; berries acutely conical, 1-seeded, fruiting calyx broadly funnel shaped.
