Plant Description

Climber 3-5 m long; stem ribbed, grey pubescent or glabrescent when young; leaves alternate, broadly ovate to cordate, shortly acuminate at apex, cordate at base, petioles 1-2 cm, tomentose; flowers in subcapitate or corymbose cymes; peduncles about 2 cm long; bracts persistent, lanceolate or orbicular; calyx divided up to the base, oblong, apex obtuse, somewhat enlarged in fruit, persistent; corolla tubular-funnel shaped, 3-6 cm long, violet-purple, tube slender, longer than spreading lobes; stamens 5 included, filaments pilose at base; ovary 4-celled, style filiform; stigma 2, globose; fruit dry, hard berry; seeds few, small, brown.
