Perennial, small or medium tree; stem straight, smooth, glabrous; leaves petiolate, alternate, simple, ovate-oblong, finely acuminate, glabrous, puberulous on veins beneath, base rounded, margins wavy; flowers large, drooping about 7 cm long, yellow, fragrant, , solitary or fascicled on short, axillary peduncles on older leaf scars; pedicels about 2-3 cm, recurved, hoary; bract scaly; sepals 3, ovate or triangular, valvate; petals 6 or more in multiples of 3, 2 to many seriate, valvate, subequal often inner smaller, 6-8 cm long, linear, flat, ribbon like, silky when young, apex acute; stamens numerous, free or polyandrous, linear; anthers extrorse, connective produced into a lanceolate, acute process; carpels 12 or more, long stalked, all free, glabrous, ovoid or obovoid; fruit indehiscent berries, stalked or sessile, 6-12 seeded, black; seeds many, pitted. |
