Perennial, very tall, columnar, lofty tree with weeping or pendulous, slender, glabrous branches; leaves alternate, 5-20 cm long, narrow, lanceolate, glabrous, tapering to acute apex, undulate margins, pellucid dotted; flowers numerous in slender or dense, subumbellate inflorescence; pedicels 2-3 cm long; bract minute, linear; sepals-3, petals- 6, in 2 series, greenish yellow, flat, linear, spreading from the narrow, concave base; stamens numerous, free, cuneate, anther cells extrorse; carpels numerous, succulent, ovoid, stalk stout and glabrous; style slender; stigma oblong; ovules 1-2, basal, erect; fruit usually 1-seeded drupe, purple-red to black, broadly ellipsoid, glabrous, flesh very thin. |
