Annual or perennial, erect, shrub; stem woody, sub-glabrous or hairy with a few scattered, glandular points, leaves usually with a gland on the midrib beneath, cordate, 3-5 rarely 7 lobed, petioles much longer than pedicels; stipules ovate-lanceolate, entire or slightly toothed; flowers large, epicalyx segments 3, large, equal to and slightly connate at ball, gashed across the top into 7-9, fairly long, lanceolate teeth; calyx truncate or obsoletely crenulate, much shorter than the bracteoles; petals obovate, cuneate; capsules ovate, globose, mucronate, 3-5 valved, seeds 5-7 in each locule, reniform, ovoid; cotton white, rarely yellow, overlying a greenish or greyish down. |
