Plant Description

Annual or perennial under-shrub or herb; stem and branches covered with sticky, stellate hairs, non prickly; leaves variable in size and shape; lower cordate or with 3-5 shallow lobes, upper oblong-lanceolate, irregularly toothed, apex acute to acuminate, both surfaces with silky hairs, 3-5 nerved at base; petiole shorter than blade; flowers solitary, peduncles axillary or clustered at the end of branches; epicalyx 7-10, linear, spathulate, shorter than sepals; calyx divided up to middle into 5- lobes, linear-lanceolate; corolla, yellow with purple centre; 2-3 times longer than sepals; petals-5, obovate, obtuse, hairy outside; stamens numerous, connate below forming a staminal column, antheriferous along whole length; carpels many, stigma as many as carpels, style long and slender, ovary multilocular, 1-2 ovules in each; capsule ovoid, beaked, enclosed within persistent calyx, valves winged at the edge, hairy; seeds reniform, pubescent or glabrous.
