Perennial, large, woody shrub; branches scandent, glabrous; leaves ovate-elliptic, more or less cuneate at base, acute at apex, serrate or entire margins, glabrous; stipules minute; flowers solitary, axillary; pedicels drooping, jointed above the middle; epicalyx lobes 6-7, subulate, minutely ciliate; calyx spathaceous or tubular, irregularly 2-4 lobed, minutely ciliate outside, glabrous inside; petals red or scarlet with white or creamy lines, deeply lacinate into many, linear, oblong segments; staminal column twice as long as petals, antheriferous only in distal part; style arms 5, stigma capitate; capsule many seeded, rarely formed. |
