Ornamental shrub; leaves ovate, entire, crenate-serrate, sometimes 3-lobed, rough, glabrous above and velvety tomentose beneath; bracteoles 7 or more, flowers usually pendulous on axillary peduncles, opening slightly at the top; sepals short, triangular; petals red or orange-red, erect, not spreading; lobes oblanceolate, staminal column exserted; style branched, linear; stigmas 10, globose; ovary 5-celled, ovules many; fruit berry, usually white, many seeded.
