Annual, erect or trailing, hairy, bushy herbs; stems rough with stellate hairs, usually with recurved, spiny, tubercles at the base of rather short petioles; leaves ovate-obovate, obtuse, serrate, cordate or truncate at the base, glabrous above, finely stellate, hoary beneath; stipules linear or subulate; flowers axillary, solitary or 2-5 together; pedicels jointed in the middle; epicalyx absent; calyx campanulate, sepals-5, deltoid, hairy, connate below into a cup shaped tube, corolla whitish yellow or white, petals-5, free above, connate below, adnate to base of staminal tube; stamens numerous, staminal tube usually shorter than petals divided at the summit into numerous anther bearing filaments; anthers monothecous; carpels-5, beaks erect, membranous, scarcely longer than calyx; styles 5; mericarps 5, trigonous, reticulately veined; seeds ovoid or trigonous, glabrous. |
