Plant Description

Large tree, up to 30 m tall, bark smooth, grey; young branches pubescent; leaves very large, variable in shape and size, large, broadly ovate to elliptic-oblong, entire or with coarsely toothed margins, glabrous above, hoary or grey-white tomentose beneath, 5-7 nerved; petioles 7-9 cm long, straight, stipules pinnatifid, caducous; flower white, fragrant, about 15 cm long; axillary, solitary or 2-3 clustered in cymes, peduncles drooping rusty tomentose, 10-15 cm, fragrant; pedicels 1-3 cm long; bracteoles caducous; palmately lobed or lacinate; sepals wooly on outside, pubescent within, linear, oblong, united at base into a short tube, thick, reflexed, deciduous; petals pure white, linear-oblong,mlittle shorter than calyx; staminal column short, bearing opposite to sepals, 3-linear, 2-celled, anthers between each pair of 5-antipealous, club shaped staminodes; ovary oblong, 5-angled, rusty tomentose outside, many ovuled, stigma 5-furrowed; capsule coriaceous, 5-valved; seeds numerous, obliquely ovoid, compressed, winged.
