Annual or perennial, erect, pubescent herb or undershrub; leaves elliptic-oblong, crenate-serrate with or without basal elongated serrations 3-4 nerved from base, petiole very short, pilose; peduncles very short, flowers 1-6, usually fascicled in leaf opposed cymes; sepals 5, linear, oblong, acuminate; petals-5, yellow, oblong, obtuse, equaling or slightly longer than sepals, without glands; stamens 15-20, free or springing from a short, contracted torus; ovary 2-6 celled; style short; stigma capitate; capsules elongate, straight or curved, 3-angled, 3-valved, without partitions between the seeds, scabrous or aculeate, beak short; seeds many, black.
