Perennial shrub, about 3-5 m high, with more or less erect or spreading, hirsute, branches; leaves elliptic-obovate or narrowly oblanceolate, somewhat with wavy margins, rounded or emarginate apex, cuneate base, leaves usually without hairs, when mature; flowers few in axillary clusters of 2-6 or in shortly peduncled cymes; sepals-5, persistent; petals 5, free, triangular, succulent, long clawed, limbs broadly wedge shaped, crimpled, pink or lavender coloured; stamens-10, free or connate at base, filaments slender, long, anthers oblong, glabrous; ovary 3-5 celled, styles-3, filiform, stigma invariably lobed; fruits scarlet-red, indehiscent drupes, single or in clusters when ripe, ovoid or subglobose with three large lobes, flesh yellow-orange. |
