Plant Description

Evergreen tree with dense crown of spreading branches, up to 20 m tall; bark black, young part pubescent; leaves alternate, elliptic-oblong margins entire, apex acute or acuminate, base tapering, equal or unequal, petiole about 2-4 cm; flowers polygamous, pale yellow, in dense, terminal, pubescent panicles; bracts deciduous; calyx 4-5, free or adnate, sepals acute, pubescent, imbricate; petals 4-5, free or adnate to disk, ovate-oblong with 2-3 ridges on the inner side, subacute, reflexed, imbricate; disk 5 lobed; fertile stamen 1, inserted inside the disk, staminodes 3-4, slender, gland tipped; ovary sessile, 1-celled, oblique, ovule pendulous; style subulate, excentric or lateral; stigma obscure; drupe one seeded, yellow, 5-20 cm long, pyriform, fleshy; seed large, compressed.
