Plant Description

Medium sized evergreen tree with dense canopy; branches spreading, tomentose; petiole hairy; leaves alternate, 15-30 x 5-10 cm, fascicled at the end of branches, serrate margins, pubescent or glabrous above, softly pubescent on nerves beneath, 30-40 pairs of prominent, close set, lateral nerves ending near the points of serrations; flower solitary, very large, 15-20 cm across, fleshy, actinomorphic, bisexual; sepals 5, orbicular, spreading, fleshy; petals 5, broad, obovate, white; stamens many, nearly free with reflexed tips, inner stamens arching over the outer; anthers linear; carpels 5- 20, cohering in the axis; ovules indefinite; styles linear, recurved; fruits globose 3-5 cm in diameter, hard on outer-side, fleshy within; seeds numerous, compressed, non arillate, hairy along the margins, naked or embedded in glutinous pulp.
