                                            Erect, stout, ascending, sub-glabrous herbs, 1-2 m high, branchlets terete, slightly striate, glabrous, stipules scarious, lanceolate, stipels linear; leaves 1-foliate, oblong-lanceolate, glabrescent, base sub-cordate, margin entire, hairy on nerves beneath, reticulately veined; rachis short, finely hairy; bracts conspicuous, ovate, acuminate, racemes moderately close, terminal or axillary, 15-30 cm long, pedicels short; calyx slightly pubescent, teeth lanceolate, 4-5 times longer than funnel shape tube; corolla pink or purple, exerted, standard broad, keel obtuse, adhering to wings; stamens diadelphous (9+1), anthers uniform; ovary nearly sessile, many ovuled, style incurved, stigma capitate; pods exserted, moniliform, turgid, joints 3-6, marked with a few, faint, raised veins, articulations of pod glabrous or finely reticulato-venose.  |
