Erect or semierect herb with hispid branches; leaves alternate, stipullate, bipinnate, leaflets usually 4, oval to obovate, thinly coriaceous, cuneate at base, entire along margins, apex obtuse or mucronate, petioles swollen at base, stipules adnate; flowers yellow or white, sessile, soilary, axillary or in few flowered capitate spike; bracts ovate lanceolate, bractioles bifid; calyx 5 lobed, 4 upper jointed, lower free, tube slender; petals-5, yellow; stamens 9 or 10, inserted at the throat of the hypanthium, monadelphous, keel beaked, incurved; ovary sessile or subsessile, 2-3 ovuled, much raised after flowering by elongating torus that ultimately becomes stalk like and curves down towards the ground burrying the fruits; pods geotropic, 1-5 seeded, turgid, jointed. |
