Plant Description

Deciduous small, tree or large shrub with grey fissured bark; young shoots clothed with grey or brown silky pubescence; leaves 3-foliolate, not gland dotted, stipellate, both stipules and stipellae tomentose; leaflets large, obovate, coriaceous, emarginate, cuneate base, obtuse apex, glabrous above, finely silky and strongly veined beneath, terminal one rhomboid, emarginate; flowers large, bright orange-red, showy, conspicuous, in axillary and terminal fascicles or racemes from the swollen tumid nodes, pedicels twice the length of calyx, dark brown, velvety; calyx elongated, broadly campanulate, toothed, densely velvety outside, clothed with silky hairs within, sepals 5, upper 2 connate, 3 lower equal, deltoid; corolla flame, salmon or orange, thickly clothed outside with silvery hairs; petals showy, equal, standard broad, recurved, keel incurved, semicircular, beaked, wings falcate; stamens diadelphous, anthers uniform, ovary sessile or stalked, 2 ovuled; style beardless; stigma capitate, filiform; pods dehiscent , not jointed, flat, narrowed suddenly into a stalk longer than calyx, clothed on outside with silvery tomentum.
