Large climbing or twining, biennial or perennial glabrous herb; leaves alternate, stipulate, stipellate 3-foliolate, leaflets glabrous, ovate, oblong, acute apex, membranous, ; stipules minute, deciduous, margin entire, tip abruptly acuminate, glabrous on both sides; racemes upto 30 cm long, axillary, many flowered, nodes tumid; peduncles long; flowers large, purple showy; calyx deeply 2-lipped, upper lip projecting, entire or emarginate, lower lip shorty 3-toothed, glabrous; corolla, rose to purple, twice as long as the calyx, petals equal, standard large, roundish, wings equaling the incurved obtuse keel; stamens monadelphous, anthers uniform; ovary obscurely stalked, many ovuled; style incurved; beardless; stigma terminal; pods about 12 cm, linear or oblong, flat with distinct rib on each valve near the sutures, glabrescent 8-12 seeded; seeds pink to brown. |
