Small, glabrous tree; petiole short; leaves simple, oblong, acute or acuminate, glaucous beneath, pubescent when young; flowers 2-3 together on short, lateral peduncles; sepals-3, small, valvate; petals 3-6, narrow, oblong, inner petals with concave base; stamens many, free, closely packed, anthers cells produced; carpels indefinite, connate, ovule solitary, style slender; stigma oblong; fruits etaerio of berries, large, greenish yellow, areolate, apparently conical, globose or subglobose or heart shaped, outer surface smooth with hexagonal margins; pericarp pulpy; seeds many, black, arillate; fruit pulp not much valued.
