Tall, glabrous tree up to 30 m in height; young branchlets, stellate pubescent; bark pale brown, vertically cracked; leaves distinctly stipulate, large, broadly ovate to lanceolate, rounded or cordate base, acuminate, entire, undulate, glabrous above, tomentose beneath, lateral nerves 12-15 pairs; petiole up to 2 cm long; flowers hardly 1 cm across, shortly stalked on unilateral panicles, terminal or in axils of fallen leaves; sepals 5, deltoid, acute to obtuse, glabrous, ciliolate; petals creamy white or pale yellow, contorted, grey pubescent; stamens 15 or more, anthers basifixed with a long, setaceous appendage, connective bearded; ovary 3-celled, 2-ovuled, pubescent; style subulate; stigma 3 toothed; capsule indehiscent, ovoid, fruiting calyx segments form obovate wings with 10-parallel nerves; seed solitary. |
