Annual or perennial twining herb; leaves alternate, stipulate, pinnately 3- foliolate; leaflets ovate-lanceolate, entire, acute as long as broad; stipules lanceolate, basifixed; leaflets broadly ovate, acuminate, glabrous or pubescent; flowers large about 2-3 cm in axillary terminal racemes; pedicels short, densely fascicled; brateoles oblong, sometimes as long as the calyx; sepals 5, teeth short, deltoid; corolla lobes 5, usually equal; much exserted, reddish purple or white, standard auriculate with appendages, keel obtuse, not spiral; stamens diadelphous (9+1), anthers uniform; ovary nearly sessile, many ovuled; style filiform or thickened upwards, bearded along inner edge or around the stigma; pods flat, strap shaped, 2-5 seeded, linear oblong, tip hooked with persistent base of style. |
