Plant Description

Large, robust, woody climbers with finely downy branchlets; leaves 30-60 cm long, old pinnate; petioles 4 to 15 cm long, slightly swollen at base, leaflets 9-11, opposite, 10-15 X 5-8 cm, obovate-oblong, membranous, distantly placed on an elongated nearly glabrous rachis, glabrescent above; flowers showy in dense, axillary, simple or paniculate racemes; bracts-bracteoles minute, ovate; calyx densely silky, , campanulate, teeth very short; corolla reddish liliac, three times longer than the calyx, densely silky; petals with long claw, standard broad, keel not beaked; stamens 1 or 2 adelphous, filaments filiform, anthers uniform; ovary sessile, linear, few or 1 ovuled; style filiform, incurved, glabrous, stigma capitate; pods linear to oblong, 1-seeded, flat, woody, straight, clothed with reddish-brown tomentum, sutures thickened; seed dark brown, flat.
