Plant Description

Woody climber, with scandent branches; older stems with stout spines; young branches glabrous or puberulous; leaves alternate, simple, 10-15 cm long, elliptic-oblong, lanceolate, acute or acuminate, glabrous; flowers 2-3 cm across, green, solitary on woody hooked peduncles, strongly fragrant with yellow-brown tomentose; sepals-3, small, recurved puberulous; petals 6 (3+3), spreading, outer broad and long, inner shorter, narrower, limbs flat with yellow-brown, velvety, pubescence, lanceolate with broad base making it apparently triangular with saccate base; stamens numerous, free, concealed by basal part of inner petals filaments very short with dorsal anther cells; carpels indefinite, connate, ovaries broad, obovoid, mucronate; style oblong or columnar, ovules 2, erect; ripe carpels berried.
