Deciduous unarmed tree, up to 14-30 m tall; bark grey to black, rough; wood extremely hard and heavy, red streaked with black or purple; leaves 2-foliolate, about 3-6 cm; leaflets sessile, oblique, thick, glabrous, coriaceous, 3-6 nerved from base, margins entire, apex obtuse or subacute; petiole up to 2 cm; flower pale-yellow, very small, few in axillary or terminal panicles; pedicels as long as the calyx; sepals-5, subpetaloid, greenish-yellow, sepals imbricate, persistent, oblong-ovate, spreading; petals absent; stamens 5, all perfect, included, filaments filiform, anthers versatile; ovary sessile, ovoid, slightly glabrous, only upper ovule perfect, pendulous, style filiform; stigma large, peltate; pod strap-shaped, thin, flattened, winged, dry, subindehiscent, samaroid; seed albuminous. |
