Medium to small, unarmed tree, wood reddish-brown; young branches glabrous; leaves even pinnate, 20-25 cm long, rachis glabrous, corky at the base, petiolules short, leaflets 3-6 pairs, oblong-lanceolate, subacute or acute, glabrous, base cuneate, subcoriaceous; stipules intrapetiolar, deciduous; flowers fragrant, scarlet, in short dense, corymbose panicles; peduncles very stout, pedicels very short, stout, red, glabrous; bracts ovate, subacute; bracteoles 2, persistent, spathulate, oblong, amplexicual; calyx with a disk at summit of cylindrical tube, yellow to orange, finally red, limbs about 3-5 cm, spreading, oblong, unequal; petals absent; stamens 3-8, usually 7, much exserted, filaments long, filiform, twice or thrice as long as calyx segments, anthers versatile, opening longitudinally, purple to scarlet; ovary stipitate, glabrous, many ovuled, style long, filiform, stigma minute, capitate; pods flat, linear, coriaceous, dehiscent; seeds 4-8, oblong, compressed. |
