Shrub or small tree up to 5m tall; leaves alternate, bipinnate, pinnae-2 with 6-10 pairs of leaflets, pinnules oblique, oblong, acute, rigidly coriaceous; flowers in axillary, globose heads, shortly stalked, bisexual, actinomorphic, pentamerous, large and showy; calyx campanulate, 5-toothed; corolla twice as long as sepals, usually white or pink; stamens very numerous scarlet or dark crimson, hairy, anthers minute; ovary stipitate, many ovuled, style slender, stigma capitate; pods small, linear, strap shaped or falcate, sutures much thickened, 4-5 seeded. |
