Plant Description

Small to moderate sized evergreen tree, with erect, robust spreading branches as thick as little finger, forming open crown; bark smooth, pale green; leaves crowded near the end of the branches, subsessile, narrowly oblanceolate tapering towards the ends, acuminate, leathery, coriaceous, slightly serrate, nerves 12-15, very prominent beneath; petiole very short, stout, woolly; flowers large, fragrant, crowded in terminal, densely, softly woolly panicles; calyx tube short, adnate to ovary, sepal 5, ovate, subacute; petals few to many, white, broadly ovate, twisted or imbricate, claw glabrous or woolly; stamens numerous; ovary 5-locular, 2 ovules in each locule; style 5, connate or woolly below; fruits large, succulent pome, up to 2.5 to 3.5 cm across, white, intruded at the top, with persistent calyx, yellow to orange when ripe; seeds large, brown, angular.
