Plant Description
Large, scandent, climbing shrub or lianas with smooth, nearly glabrous, pale-brown bark and glabrous young parts; leaves opposite, ovate-lanceolate, entire, glabrous or nearly so, acuminate, rarely rounded, petiole about 2 cm, mid rib at the base and petioles with brown hairs; flowers yellowish-white, subsessile in short, axillary, rather dense, panicled spikes or branched racemes; bracteoles minute; calyx tube campanulate, shortly constricted above the ovary, glabrous outside, lobes 4, triangular or ovate, acute, reflexed; petals 4, white or greenish yellow, narrowly obovate, obtuse, scarcely exceeding the calyx; disk and base of calyx with much long hair; stamens twice as many as petals, in 2-series; ovary 1-celled, ovules 2-5, pendent from the top of the ovary; fruits as long as broad, with 4, papery, nearly glabrous, transversely striate wings; seeds solitary, 4 sided. |
