Plant Description

Tall tree, bark greenish or bluish white, peeling off in long strips or sheets; leaves those on young shoots, opposite, sessile, cordate and those on old shoots, subsessile, lanceolate-falcate, acuminate, glaucous; flowers large, axillary, solitary or 1-3 together on a short, flattened peduncle; calyx glaucous, operculum depressed, hemispheric, abruptly pointed warty-glandular, bluish white; stamens numerous, anthers oblong, filaments slender, much exserted; ovary 3-6-celled, many ovules on axile placenta; fruits rather large, rugose, hemispheric capsule; seeds very small, glossy, smooth, not winged.
