Plant Description

Large tree, bark smooth, ashy grey or white; branches angular, slender/often glaucous; juvenile leaves opposite, ovate, green, adult leaves, alternate, linear-lanceolate, falcate, glabrous, oblique at base, secondary nerves prominent, oil dots scanty or obscure; flowers small, off-white in axillary, short peduncled, umbels; hypanthium continuous with the pedicel usually produced beyond the ovary; calyx tube semiglobose without distinct sepals; petals entirely fused into very long operculum or calyptra, conical or with much longer beak; stamens many, free, filaments long, slender, anthers dorsifixed; ovary 3-locular, placenta axile, style long, stigma blunt; fruit capsule, hemispherical on slender pedicel, truncate-globose; seeds reddish black, glossy, small, smooth, not winged.
