Small tree with smooth, brown bark, splitting into long, thin flakes; young branches pubescent; petiole short; leaves opposite, coriaceous, not gland dotted, ovate-oblong, acuminate, glabrous above, softly pubescent beneath; flowers axillary, solitary or 2-3 together in clusters, large, white; pedicels, short, stout; calyx urceolate or obovate, limbs 4, very short or undivided, valvate; petals 4-5, white, free, broad, ovate, 2-3 times longer than calyx; stamens numerous, free; ovary 2 or more celled, many ovuled; fruits indehiscent berry, fleshy, many seeded, globose, ovoid or pear shaped.
