Perennial, stiff, much branched undershrub; leaves alternate, ovate-lanceolate, entire or serrate, hairy, crowded at the ends of branches, lateral nerves slender, 9-10 pairs; peduncles sometimes adnate to petiole; bract-bracteoles present flowers bisexual, actinomorphic, solitary in axils of upper leaves, calyx tube densely appressed-pubescent, indistinctly gland-dotted, sepals-5, connate below, lobes lanceolate, acuminate, imbricate; petals-5, inserted at the throat of calyx, bright yellow, obovate, distinctly clawed; stamens-5, inserted in the middle or at the throat or mouth of calyx; ovary 1-celled, ovoid, superior, white, 6, with small, glabrous, apical tubercles, styles-3, stigma, 3-5 lobed; capsules ovoid, thick-walled, 3-valved; seeds cylindric- clavate, brown. |
