Perennial, herbaceous, climbing shrubs; stem striate, tendrils axillary; leaves alternate, broader than long, more or less pubescent, simple or deeply 3-lobed, base cordate, margins finely toothed, green, glossy above, paler and dull beneath; stipules linear; flowers large, showy, fragrant, axillary or terminal, solitary with long peduncle; bracteoles-3, foliacious; sepals 5, greenish-white, oblong, saucer shaped; petals 5, oblong, blue or white, corona laciniate, lobes filiform, straight, white tipped rays in many series; stamens 5, filaments inserted on gynophores, anthers large; ovary 1-celled, ellipsoid; styles-3, stout; stigma reniform or club shaped, forming a prominent central structure; fruit baccate, globular oblong, glabrous, thickly purple dotted; seeds many, arillate.
