Annual, scabrous, climbing herbs; tendrils simple; stem angular or grooved, villose; leaves 3-7 angular, petioled and subsessile on the same plant, cordate, subcoriaceous, entire or shortly 5-lobed, acute at the apex, denticulate; flowers small, yellow, monoecious, male and female flowers clustered in the same axil; male flowers very short peduncled, fasciculate; calyx campanulate, teeth-5, subulate; petals-5, yellow; stamens-3, inserted low in the calyx tube, anthers free, 1-anther 1-celled, 2-anthers 2-celled, cells straight, connective not produced; female flowers subsessile; calyx and corolla as in male flowers; disk annular; ovary ovoid, hispid, style thick, stigma 2-3 lobed, placentas 3 or 2; berry indehiscent, globose, small, smooth; seeds few, ovoid, compressed, smooth, strongly margined. |
