Annual, trailing or creeping, hispid, annual herb; stems hirsute, angular or grooved, scabrous; tendrils simple; leaves shallowly 3-7 lobed, suborbicular, base cordate, acute or acuminate, sub-hirsute, denticulate; flowers large, yellow, monoecious, shortly peduncled; male flowers fascicled in axils; calyx campanulate, tube narrow with white hairs, lobes-5, linear-lanceolate, erect or spreading; corolla campanulate, yellow, deeply 5-lobed, limbs ovate-oblong, obtuse; stamens-3, free, filaments short, anthers cohering, connective crested; female flower axillary, solitary; calyx-corolla as in males; staminodes absent; ovary ovoid or globose, 1-celled, 3-placentiferous, ovules numerous, parietal; fruits cylindrical to elongate, straight or curved, ribbed; seeds oblong, beaked, compressed.
