Plant Description

Annual, pubescent, climbing herbs; stem thick, softly pubescent; tendrils bifid; petioles very long, with 2-glands at the apex; leaves ovate or orbicular, 3-5 angled or lobed, cordate, dentate, equally broad, acute or shortly acuminate at apex, softly pubescent on both surfaces; flowers solitary, large, white, monoecious; male flowers on long, axillary peduncles; calyx subcampanulate or funnel shaped, pubescent, sepals-5, narrow; petals-5, white, free, obovate, emarginated at apex, tomentose; stamens-3, connate, included, 1-unilocular, 2-bilocular, cells conduplicate; pistillode absent; female flowers on peduncles shorter than male flowers; calyx more villous; ovary oblong; style short with 3 bifid stigmatic lobes; ovules numerous, placentae-3, parietal; fruits large, cylindric, variable in shape and size, pale-green, indehiscent; seeds many, compressed, white, with a marginal groove.
