Scandent or prostrate scabrous, monoecious climbing herbs; stem slender, angular hispid or scabrid; tendrils simple, striate, sparingly hirsute; leaves 3-7 angular, not deeply lobed, margins dentate; petiole often very short, hairy; male flowers on short peduncles, in axillary fasciles; calyx campanulate, teeth-5, subulate; corolla 5-partite, yellow, ovate-oblong, rounded at apex; stamens 3, inserted low in the calyx tube, filaments short, anthers free, one 1-celled, two 2-celled, cells straight, connective not produced; female flowers subsessile, often in same axil; calyx and corolla same as in male flower; disk annular; ovary ovoid, very hispid, 3 or 2-placenta; style thick, stigma 3 or 2-lobed; ovules many; fruit globose, small, indehiscent berry, red when ripe; seeds rough on their faces. |
